Jewellery Care
Our pieces are crafted for daily wear, but we encourage you to treat them with the utmost care. Below are guidelines to help you keep your jewellery looking beautiful.
Water Exposure.
All Milk & Stone jewellery is waterproof and can be worn in fresh water. Water exposure will not cause yellowing of your keepsake stone.
However, please ensure you remove your jewellery prior to swimming in pools or hot tubs. Chlorine and other pool chemicals are corrosive to precious metals, will weaken your jewellery and have the potential to dull the shine of your stone.
Saltwater may lead to tarnishing and should be rinsed off thoroughly after swimming.
Chemicals, Cleaning & Body Products
We recommend removing your jewellery or covering it by wearing gloves before using household cleaning products.
Chlorine, bleaches, deep cleaners, detergents, solvents and other chemicals can damage your jewellery by corroding precious metals and degrading keepsake stones, causing them to look cloudy or dull.
Makeup, perfumes, hair products and lotions can build up and affect your jewellery over time. Its best to wait until these products have absorbed into your skin before putting your jewellery on.
Physical Activity
We recommend removing your jewellery before undertaking strenuous activities or exercise to avoid significant wear and tear or potential loss. Fine jewellery can be easily damaged through contact with weights or gym equipment, as well as via pressure applied during activities such as Yoga and Pilates.
Failing to do this puts your piece at risk of being knocked, snagged, misshapen under pressure or rubbed against abrasive surfaces.
If you are unsure if an activity may cause damage to your jewellery, it is always safest to remove your jewellery first.
Sleep
Please take care if you choose to sleep in your jewellery. Chains are at risk of tangling and rings are at increased risk of stretching and warping.
Sun Exposure
Avoid leaving your jewellery in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. While our keepsake stone material is 100% UV stable, your keepsake holds your personal inclusions which may be affected by UV rays.
UV exposure can cause fading or discolouration of your personal inclusions within your stone.
Cleaning & Storage
Skin pH levels can affect how your jewellery wears. Natural body oils and perspiration contain acids that may cause discoloration. This is a natural occurrence for precious metals and not a defect in the jewellery.
To keep your jewellery looking its best, use a soft jewellery polishing cloth to gently remove any build-up of sweat, moisture, or dirt. If needed, your jewellery can also be cleaned using warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush.
Do not use ultrasonic cleaners, as they can damage the stones.
Store your jewellery in a cool, dark, and dry place when not being worn. Sterling silver and some 9ct golds can experience oxidisation when unworn for long periods of time and will require repolishing to return to their original colours.
Warranty
Our warranty covers your jewellery only when it has been cared for according to the above care instructions. It does not cover accidental damage.
All jewellery goes through a final polish and quality check and is photographed upon dispatch.
It’s not feasible for us to list every physical activity that might damage your jewellery, so we encourage you to use your best judgment. Any activity that puts pressure on your hands has the potential to bend or warp ring bands, particularly delicate bands or those made from softer metals. Repeated or excessive bending can create stress points, which may eventually cause the metal to break. If you're uncertain whether an activity could harm your ring, it’s always safest to remove it beforehand.
Fine jewellery requires extra care as time goes on. If you have any questions or concerns about your piece at any point, please reach out to us, and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can.
