Embryo Straw Cremation
For families who have made the decision to release their remaining embryos from storage, our Embryo Straw Cremation Service offers a way to honour and remember them.
Each straw is handled with care and dignity throughout the process. The resulting ashes can be returned to you on their own or used to create a keepsake, depending on what feels right for you.
This service can be used for one or multiple embryo straws. The price covers the cremation service itself and is not charged per straw.
What’s Included
- Embryo straw cremation
- Cremation certificate
- Ashes carefully returned to you
Please Note
This is a standalone service; the cost is not applied toward future keepsake pieces.
If you are purchasing a keepsake (rather than cremation as a standalone service), select Embryo Straws as your inclusion when designing your piece. The option to add cremation will then appear in the design menu.
How the cremation works
Because embryos are microscopic, the entire embryo straw is cremated. This produces a very small amount of ash, which can then either be returned to you or incorporated into a keepsake.
Will there be enough ash for a keepsake?
Yes. Embryo straw cremation produces only a very small amount of ash, but only a small amount is needed for a keepsake.
Releasing your embryo straws
If you have already decided to proceed with thawing and release, your IVF clinic will usually ask you to complete their relevant consent or release paperwork.
Once that process is complete, the clinic will thaw the embryos and release the straws to you.
Clinic procedures can vary, so we recommend confirming the exact release process directly with your IVF provider.
Sending your embryo straws to us
Once the straws have been released to you, they can be securely packaged and sent to us.
We recommend using a small padded mailer and Express Post so you can follow the parcel while it is in transit.
Once they arrive, we’ll complete our usual intake process before beginning the cremation and keepsake process.
